Ok so this deserves its own post

So what can I tell you?

I started it in Nov 15 and finished it in Jan 18

From what I logged, there are some bits missing, I worked on it for 168 days for a total of 260 hours.  I definately know that I did not log the last weekend I spent on it and that was quite a session possibly as much as 10 hours.  The fact that it was only 168 day but 27 months proves that my plan of working on it everyday and hopefully putting in 100 stitches really did not happen

The total stitch count is 34882 so that would mean overall I averaged about 2 stitches a minute.  However I know that some stitches took way longer than that!

It is stitches using all the stitched for colours on 27 count Linda evenweave 1 over 1.  During the course of stitched I have worked in rows, columns, parked/not parked, crosscountry, everything I think!  Can I say which was the best way well not really.  I did not grid and do not think it would have helped me but that is simply personal choice.

The pic is pre ironing.  However you will see there is some distortion.  I think this has come from the fact that I changed between a Q Snap and my millenium frame somewhere near the top.

In terms of difficulty I would say that one of these full coverage pieces is not necessarily harder than a normal cross stitch and I can see that some people which actually find it easier as you know everything has to be filled in.#

Will I ever do another Heaven and Earth Design.  I would never say never but I think it will be a long time before I try again because I am a multicrafter there is simply not the time to dedicate to one of these that will see a finish in the project in a time I find acceptable.  Also due to the fact that even this “mini” has 89 colours it is not as portable as my normal cross stitch so I can only really work on it at home whereas I quite often work on my projects whilst travelling or in breaks at work.

So if nothing else gets done this year I have an acheivement…..nah one thing is simply not enough is it!

As a little extra here is a link to a slide shows of the photos from all the days I took one after I worked on her.  Its a bit long and not great as my photography is not great and not taken from the same angle.  Plus I let the app do its thing, its beyond me to fiddle with it!

Ok lets see whether I can stick with this this year?

Ok so I am still here I am still “doing”, seems like slowly most of the time but then when you look back maybe not.

Lets just have a quick rundown of last years finishes.  And maybe a few extras as it seems I have not been on here since Oct 16!

So moving forwards I NEED NEED NEED to get my Heaven and Earth designs mini princess and the pea done its been on the go over two years now and I have other projects I really want to work on.  So this is a focus for January.

I also would like to complete one more Brooks Books advent in January.

And I think the only other crafting thing I can hope to get finished is “Merry” band for my Christmas C2C blanket.

Finally I really need to finish my current Stephen King book as that is another thing that has really been neglected.

Update soon (hopefull!)

In short I have way to much planned for the time I have but I want to push myself hard to get things done whilst keeping to the most important thing I have learnt last year…which is you need to work on what you are enjoying.  There is no point in trying to do something when you are not into it as it just won’t go right.  This doe’s not always mean that you will never do it, just today is not the day.

Epilogue – oh dear things I am already thinking about for next year, what am I saying merely the extras for this year!

Well I am definately bad at this

I started writing the post in about September.  Clearly my heart wasn’t in it.  Well at least while I am not blogging I have been crafting…..I am sure not as much as some but it seems quite a lot when you put it altogether, well it should, we are all about to see.  As there is quite a lot I am going to do mainly pics.

So first up is my new/old machine.  I have had it since about February when I finally decided I didn’t like my machine.  It’s an early 1980’s Bernina 930.  So far we are friends, I recently bought a walking foot and I was lucky enough to get a 1/4 foot for my birthday so my feet collection is pretty much back to where it was with my old machine.

So here are so of the things I have done with it so far

Saved my coat sleeve edges

Outside of folded up cross stitch travel case

Very basic Prima top my first project with the new machine

Somewhere there are some french knickers that go with this but I made some cutting and instruction following errors so they are realistically in the scraps pile

Full view of cross stitch travel case

End pattern pocket on cross stitch travel case

Notions pocket on cross stitch travel case

Inside my home made cross stitch travel case

Baby sack joint project between sewing machine and overlocker

Tie backs shortened

There has also been some minimal hand sewing, obviously only where absolutely necessary

Another save..I loved this cardi so its had to have some patches to cover the small holes…

Ironing board cover refashioned from a large one bought from the discount bin for £1.50

Ah and the sleeve board refashion pal of the table top board also made from same full sized cover

Ok weird I know but ever since I got a sindy in a flasher mac, wellies and no knickers when I was 4 I think knickers are important. So finally Ada has some

We had a little fun at work and made some guinea pigs from the comic relief craft book.  So here is a few different takes on the same project.

And an entirely no sew as it turned out, work chair recover.

Knitting well my “Pearly” has still spent most of the year consuming me.  Its been a running out of yarn disaster. Despite a very kind French lady sending me a ball of her same dyelot for free I still ran out again, hence you can see the dyelot difference in the bands.  The buttons are the only ones I could get anywhere that would fit the holes and had to be bead shanked.  I am not happy with the sleeve length.  It is safely in the drawer until I feel like looking at it again

And here are some happier knits

Collette by a French designer on Ravelry. I love this pattern, the 20% wool/80% acrylic does not doe it justice but its my work throw on so had to be practical. Unusually I might actually do another one

Bride and groom for colleagues wedding

Timmy now has his wife goody

And something else not so great.  I had thought I would do the Learn to knit an afghan.  I have now decided not.  I had done a few squares but was then trying to work the blocking, I have never blocked before, I didn’t really know what I was doing and could clearly see that attempting to manipulate them all to size really was not going to be fun.  The effort required to knit it all would be quite epic to follow it up with the blocking just didn’t appeal.  But hey it cleared a few spots for next year 😉

Cross stitching has had few finishes but with a new project on the go progress will be slow for a while….

Racing car, stitching on black is certainly different

Yes I know I should have ironed it. Jammie staffie Dmc kit

Ahhh emergency stitch

Ready for future weddings, great little travel project

Ready for future weddings, great little travel project

Ready for future weddings, great little travel project

A card for my cousin’s special birthday

A kit given to me by someone who can no longer manage to do cross stitch so I though I would make it up for them as a thank you for all the other stuff that came with it

I have made a bit better stab at crochet this year although it is still a bit of a struggle coming from the world of knitting and I am certainly not fast and my fingers and not that happy with it *ouch*

An owl from a craft magazine it was described as a cushion but its tiny so I don’t know what its a cushion for!

Boofle friend Purly the penguin

Everything else I suppose is quite slow I haven’t read nearly as many Stephen King books as I planned to.  I did have this as my “work am” project though, the idea was to work one row each day before I started work, most days I managed it and it made for a good start to the day.

And finally some Christmas presents

Oops no photo of it finished

Roofle another of Boofles friends

An emergency last minute request!

And the reason why cross stitch will be slow…I have finally given in to a Heaven and Earth design (google if you have not seen) essentially they are crazy fully stitched no visable fabric cross stitches.  Mine is a mini but is still 34882 stitches.  The plan was not to start until after Christmas but I couldn’t wait.  So this is how far I have got which is about 7500 stitches so quite a way to go.  Here is a day by day montage to show the progess, it certainly is a new way of stitching….

And baring there being many extra unexpected free hours before Christmas this is where it will be left until the new year

I may have forgotten something but it has been such a long time since I posted who knows!

This post has been prewritten and scheduled for publication

Only one thing to shown again

I have finished this cross stitch which is for a gift and was not on the initial year plan….photo

I have been progressing with my Pearly cardigan but have not really got on very well with anything else.  I have got distracted by a number of things.  Including trying to set my ipad to do things I want it to do and also had to get a new computer because I could no longer use WordPress and a number of other sites on my old XP machine. Although I have quickly discovered there are quite a few things I can do on my XP machine that I cant on the new windows 7!  Oh yes I didn’t go to windows 8 that is s stretch too far.  I did consider trying to manage without a PC but I just couldn’t see it happening.  And as usual work gets in the way.  I also really have been getting on well on the reading front.

Well time to go and attempt to achieve something then!

A long time and a case of De Ja Vu

Well I originally started writing this post on 03/06/14.  I did actually publish it on 13/07/14 and if you appeared on the internet at just the right/wrong moment you would have seen it but with broken picture links. Well all I can say is technology got the better of me somewhere.  I had to write the post on the app on the ipad as my home computer will no longer let me access the wordpress page (and many others) as apparently something is out of date.   After that I know not what happened but its not on the Ipad or the internet anymore which is even cleverer on the basis that at one point it was on the ipad twice.  Anyway back to the official story. Yes its been a long time but at the minute I know have no WIP, I am sure I will manage to change that before the week is out!

I finally finished “It”.  It was a long slog and a heavy read, as its over 1400 pages!  I don’t know whether it was slow because of this because I had all ready seen the film, obviously there is way more in the book, or just not in a reading mode?  Anyway another one off the list 6 months late so I really have got to get a move on if I want to reach my target by the end of the year. With that in mind I have finished the next one already!  Yay only a tiddler in comparison though.  Eyes of the Dragon, a bit of an oldie wordly one, like the Dark Tower one, which has not really been a favourite but it was nice to see one of the recurring characters again.

Here are the two gifts which I was working on for weddings.  Both weddings now been and gone so they can be unveiled.

FF Wedding Finished Car wedding finished

Cross stitch

Also on a cross stitch front I started this very recent purchase which should never had made it to the top of the pile but it was only small and its done already!

Knitting and not knitting!

Here is the cardi that I have been working on from the vintage book, the second attempt, its all done and has been knitted for a while.  However many other people had mentioned that the front bands needed reinforcing and indeed they did.  So I have spent considerable time stitching gross grain ribbon to the inside of the bands whilst carefully stretching to the appropriate length, ably assisted by my clover clips – see below,  and then I really had to pluck up the courage to cut the button holes in the ribbon.  This was assisted by fray stop and some hand sewn button holes.  Yes I saw the instructions after I started that said you should do the button holes in the ribbon before you stitch it on but with the stretching required I just dont think that would have worked.  Any way it has all been worth it as I am pleased with the result.

And here is the not so knitting,  wow she was a project in knitted construction.  All the parts were easy enough knot but then there was a lot of putting together not least the making of the legs……pipe cleaners, straws, glue, wool!  Again another thing done, she unfortunately does not stand of her own accord but is a much better effort than Tom.

Pattern Weights

As I never do any sewing I though I would make these for not sewing LOL.  They are supposed to be pattern weights as I say if I ever get around to using them!

A little spend

And I had a little spend on some things I had been hanging out on buying for a while.  I thought at least if I buy tools I am only buying things to help not extra things to do!  And the clover clips are awesome.   Anyway of to work out what to do next and hopefully get things done a little sooner this time.

I also think maybe I should blog each thing otherwise I just end up with round up emails which looks like I havent been doing anything.  AND I FORGET STUFF!

Edited again as I did forget stuff!

I have now done “official” snowflakes, when I say official I mean with the wool that was intended for them.

Kind of buying, kind of doing, kind of being helped…

Newly spangled new bobbins….thanks Joan

DSCN0307 New bobbins wound on winder

Prototype, but pretty much final, bobbin winder,………thanks Dad

Ah so just another thing that I need to find time to get around to!

Ok so I’m getting somewhere at last

Tom is done. He does not look like Tom from the books nor does he look like Tom from the pattern! Which I also feel does not look that much like the one from the book but never mind. I gave up on the knitted eyes and went for cat safety ones as the knitted ones kept turning out weird. But here he is

The sheep quilt is now also finished and I do like this. As was rightly said by someone I have already shown it “what’s the point?” Yeh ok I suppose it’s just decorative and I will never put it up but I have enjoyed doing it, especially considering its mainly hand sewing. In the end the worst bits of it are the bits I machine sewed!

Vintage cardi now also doneish. The main part is knitted and sewn together but I need to finish the neck tie and the same as others have mentioned I think it probably needs the bands stabilising as they are knitted as part of the garment, not separate and then knitted on, so I me to look for something to do that.

I will confess to having purchased, received and swapped/shared some extra projects which now means that either this years list is looking even more crowded or that I have made a start on next years already!

I have now started another of my gift projects which will hopefully not take too long but I am yet to decide what I will do along side/when this is done.

And the “problem child” from earlier posts may have found a new home, fingers crossed.
